This beautiful quote from Krishna - as he reveals the Hindu sacred text, the Bhagavad Gita - to his devoted friend, Arjuna exemplifies how the fragrance of earth in India is so closely linked with the Divine. The fragrance is subtle yet rich and complex at the same time and the warm and soothing earthy fragrance is extremely heart opening and grounding. The aroma is of Indian monsoon rains, givers of life and sustenance, and the fragrance of the earth. Earth Attar has an essence that reminds us when the monsoon rains first make contact with the rich but dry soil of India. When the first drops of rain fall upon the parched earth, it gives off an intoxicating aroma, a beautiful and symbolic essence of abundance and good things to come. The process of making Earth Attar is very labor intensive and complicated. Perfumers know that each earth has its own distinct odor. Only “old†earth from certain areas can be used in order to extract the desirable aroma. It could be dried lakes, ponds or even old wells. Our Earth Attar comes from ancient Varanasi, at the banks of the sacred Ganges River – an ideal location for earth because of its age, extraordinarily rich and organic nature ultimately translating into a very complex and high grade attar. The process begins by collecting earth from selected plots at the banks of the Ganges River. The plots are reserved especially for this purpose and also for making murtis or sacred images of Hindu deities. The plots are cordoned off from public and a lot of care goes into ensuring that the earth is free from any debris. The earth is then formed into discs and laid out in the hot sun to bake. The discs are then placed into a kiln and baked further before being placed into water-filled copper vessels called degs. The degs are then carefully sealed with a clay lid. The aromatic vapors, produced from a wood fire, rise through hollow bamboo pipes and pass into another deg filled with pure sandalwood oil. There the vapors condense and after a few days of distillation, the water and oil separate, allowing most of the aromatic molecules to become infused with the sandalwood oil. The process is repeated for approximately 25 days until the sandalwood oil becomes thoroughly saturated with the rich, smoky perfume of baked earth. Earth Attar is excellent for wearing, burning in a copper aromatherapy lamp and even blending with other aromatic oils, especially sweet or floral oils such as rose, jasmine or gardenia, to name a few. Blending Earth Attar with these highly floral oils produce a very grounding and “earthy†quality which is very desirable. TANTRA: Earth Attar promotes the energy of the first chakra house, also known as the root chakra, third (navel) as well as the fourth chakra (heart chakra). Located at the base of the spine, the first chakra or the root chakra forms our foundation. It represents the element earth, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence. The third chakra is known as the power chakra, located in the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power. The heart chakra is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy heart chakra allows us to feel love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness. Bottle: Glass with Plastic Rollon and Golden Cap with Velvet Pouch
