Sea-Buckthorn is a thorny shrub that grows near rivers and in sandy soil along the Atlantic coasts of Europe and throughout Asia, where it has been used for centuries in traditional medical applications. The leaves, flowers, fruits and oils from the seeds are all used for remedies. There are seven varieties of the Sea Buckthorn, the most common of which is the Hippophae rhamnoides L. Sea Buckthorn, or Hippophae rhamnoides L. . Why choose sea buckthorn oil over other forms? Choosing a sea buckthorn product can be daunting. There are sea buckthorn oils, capsules, powders, teas, leaves, juices, wines, marmelades, and you name it out in the market. In a nutshell, if it’s powder, extract, or in any dry form … it’s not holding the wonderful omega fatty acids (aka oils) that make this fruit such a wonderful supplement. You’re taking the wonder out of it. Juices contain the EFA’s still but to a lesser degree. They’re also expensive, can spoil quicker, and taste about as tart as most people can bare. Leaves and teas are nice for the flavonoids and antioxidants but miss out, once again, on the majority of omega fatty acids found in the fruit or seed. Oil is simply , stable, and nutritionally sound than any other forms. So choose sea buckthorn oil when making your product decision. preferably in a softgel , the oil will provide the most benefits the fruit can offer. Fatty Acids Fats and oils in foods are made up of basic units called fatty acids. The oils and fats that people eat are nearly always mixtures of 3 types of fatty acids– monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, or saturated fats, with one type predominating. Two specific types of polyunsaturated fatty acids, linoleic (omega 6) and alpha-linolenic (omega 3), are called essential fatty acids (EFAs). They must be present in the diet in adequate amounts because they are literally essential to life and health. Seven critical functions of essential fats are: • Developing and maintaining gray matter in the brain • Achieving optimal growth • Maintaining the integrity of cell membranes • Keeping skin healthy • Proper visual development • Maintaining a healthy nervous system • Regulation of blood pressure, blood clotting and the body’s inflammatory response Omega-9, Oleic Acid is the One of the best types of fats is oleic acid (Omega-9). Omega 9, a monounsaturated oil (MUFA), is not an essential fatty acid as the body can synthesize it from other nutritional compounds that are consumed. It occurs naturally in greater quantities than any other fatty acid. Oleic acid is the main fat in olive oil. Olive oil is well known for it's health benefits, with science clearly linking oleic acid to lower cardiovascular risk, lower blood levels of cholesterol and lower levels of blood glucose. Oleic acid comprises about 55% in Canola oil and about 20% in sunflower oil. Studies suggest that in countries with higher obesity prevalence, it is the shift from MUFA (such as olive oil) to PUFA (vegetable oils) that particularly appears to be associated with the risk of obesity. Omega 6, Linoleic Acid With respect to fatty acids – balance appears to be important. Human beings evolved on a diet with a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs) of approximately 1:1. Western diets are woefully deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, and have excessive amounts of omega-6 fatty acids with the ratio being 15:1 - 17:1 In todays world, cereals – mainly wheat, corn and rice – predominate, leading to a relative deficiency of omega 3 fats compared with omega 6 fats. This imbalance is worsened by the consumption of meat from intensively reared animals fed grain relatively rich in omega 6 fats rather than wild plants with a high omega 3 fat content. Even farmed fish contain lower amounts of omega 3 than those living wild. The wide use of polyunsaturated oils (linoleic acid is the major polyunsaturated fatty acid in vegetable oils) also exaberates the ratio imbalance. Research shows the proper ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids is a key factor in preventing many of the modern chronic diseases including coronary heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, high blood pressure, some cancers, macular denegeration, inflammatory and auto-immune disorders. Bringing the fats into proper proportion may actually relieve those conditions, as the right balance of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids enables the body to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, prevent irregular heart beats and promote healthy blood flow. For a healthy balance, it is recommended that the ratio be less than 5:1 Omega 3, Alpha-linolenic Acid Over 2,000 scientific studies have demonstrated the wide range of problems associated with Omega-3 deficiencies. The American diet is almost devoid of Omega 3′s, as there are few sources of Omega 3 except for certain types of fish. In fact, researchers believe that about 60% of Americans are deficient in Omega-3 fatty acids, and about20% have so little that test methods cannot even detect any in their blood. Just as muscles are made of protein and bones are made of calcium, the human brain is more than 60% structural fat. But it’s not just any fat that our brains are made of. It has to be certain types of fats, and we no longer eat these types of fats like we used to. Instead, we eat man-made trans-fats and excessive amounts of saturated fats and vegetable oils, all of which interfere which our body’s attempt to utilize the small amount of Omega-3 fats that it gets. A Purdue University study has showed that kids low in Omega-3 essential fatty acids are significantly more likely to be hyperactive, have learning disorders, and to display behavioral problems. According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, Omega-3 deficiencies have also been tied to many conditions, including the following: allergies, arthritis, cancer, eczmea, diabetes, depression, dyslexia, eczema, heart diseaes, inflammatory diseases, memory problems, and violence. However, a recent British Medical Journal analysis of nearly 100 studies of omega-3 fatty acids found mixed benefits. In most people they were beneficial, but not so for everyone. For those with congestive heart failure, chronic recurrent angina or evidence that the heart is receiving insufficient blood flow, it may be prudent to avoid taking omega-3 fatty acids or eating foods that contain them, and they should talk to their doctor OMEGA 7 Palmitoleic Acid It’s most well known, however, for promoting beauty, especially in the United States. Sea buckthorn has the rare Omega-7, a fatty acid that naturally occurs in the skin, and is the richest plant source known worldwide. Omega 7 fatty acid (also called “Palmitoleic Acid” in most scientific and clinical publications) can be found in animal and plant sources, including macadamia nuts, cold-water fish and sea buckthorn berries. Sea buckthorn contains a much higher concentration of this valuable fatty acid, up to 40% as compared to 17% in macadamia nuts. While this omega has numerous skin and health benefits, it is also known for its ability to support a healthy weight, cardiovascular health, and gastro-intestinal health. Cardiovascular health AND omega 7 Your entire cardiovascular system benefits from increased access to omega 7, particularly palmitoleic acid.* The positive benefits to cardiovascular health fall into two categories: it may help (1) reduce the amount of bad cholesterol traveling through your arteries, and (2) help smooth their passage, which in turn helps artery walls stay strong and resistant to tearing.* Improved lipid panels. Omega 7 (or palmitoleic acid) has been shown to induce broad improvements in overall lipid levels, including a reduction in LDL (bad cholesterol) levels and an increase in HDL (good cholesterol) levels.* Balancing lipid panels has long been the primary goal of most cardiovascular health programs. Smooth artery walls. Omega 7 (or palmitoleic acid) has been shown to reduce elevations in C-reactive protein (CRP), which indicates how inflamed and sticky artery walls are.* By soothing and smoothing artery walls in much the same way that they soothe and smooth skin, omega 7s keep cholesterol and fats in the blood moving along so they don’t stick and cause problems. Skin, hair and nails and omega 7 Omega 7 provides key building blocks for skin, hair and nails. It helps combat wrinkles, dryness, loss of skin elasticity, and other symptoms of malnourished or aging skin. It also helps skin function properly by supporting numerous skin functions, including: 1. Boosting collagen production* 2. Protecting against oxidative damage* 3. Restoring youthful resilience and plumpness to aging skin cells* 4. Rejuvenating skin cell membranes* 5. Enhancing the skin’s ability to retain moisture* 6. Repairing sun-damaged skin* 7. Protecting against sun damage, toxins and environmental stress* Weight management and omega 7 Taken internally, omega 7 fatty acid signals the body to stop storing fat.* Clinical studies have shown that, not only do users melt away fat, but they also keep it off for longer periods.* This amazing compound also helps the body maintain insulin sensitivity and fight off the imbalances that can result in metabolic syndrome.* Insulin sensitivity plays a major role in helping the body convert glucose into energy, rather than storing it as fat. Research shows that omega 7 imitates a hormone in the body that helps regulate systemic metabolic activity. Gastro-intestinal health and omega 7 Omega 7 has a soothing and smoothing effect on all the body’s sensitive internal linings. These linings (the mucous membranes that line the GI tract, stomach, upper respiratory tract and genital area) help nourish and hydrate internal organs and combat stressors, including excessive stomach acid or chronic inflammation. In addition to soothing inflamed and irritated membranes, the body needs this powerful fatty acid to plump up those sensitive linings, just like it uses them to plump thin, stretched skin cells. SEABUCKTHORN SOD(SUPER OXIDE DIMUSTASE) Our body consists of sixty trillion cells. The energy for cells’ movement is from mitochondria in the cells. In this case, it is inevitable that super oxygen (a kind of free radical) and free radicals will appear in every part of the body. The task to dispel these free radicals is taken by antioxidant enzyme SOD. In free radicals, the super oxygen with the largest amount will be disintegrated by SOD first, and then peroxide from the disintegration will be deprived of toxin through catalyse. This is a bidirectional process. After forty years old, the productivity of SOD in human body will gradually decrease and must be supplied by external forces. Seabuckthorn seed oil contains oily SOD substance, which has the same function as the SOD enzyme. The oily SOD in seabuckthorn is different from that in other plants, which is Rare and Precious with extremely low content. Furthermore, such oily SOD is Very Unusual in the Whole World. It has been certified that oily SOD is effective in removing and counteracting unsaturated fatty acid and cholesterol. PHOSPHOLIPIDS AND DRY EYES The high concentration of the Omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9 as well as essential Phospholipids support the vital lipid layer of the eye.(TEARS) There are two phospholipids predominant in tears—phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine—which account for 60% of the phospholipid profile of the meibomian secretions.20 Oliver Shine, Ph.D., and James McCulley, M.D., reported that low levels of phosphatidylethanolamine and sphingomyelin were associated with evaporative dry eye rather than tear insufficiency. 4. IMPORTANT FACTS 1. Sea buckthorn berry provides 10 times more vitamin C than oranges. 2. It is the 3rd highest source of Vitamin E in the plant world. 3. Sea buckthorn oil was used to heal burn victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. 4. Russia uses the oil on the skin of the cosmonauts to help heal radiation burns that occur upon re-entry to the earth’s atmosphere. 5. China used Sea buckthorn juice as its national drink during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
